Many members and friends of First Universalist Church in Rockland are involved in social justice projects and organizations in the midcoast area. Social justice groups use and have used our church building for a gathering spot.
In the past, we have been the site for phone banking for Equality Maine, and have been a site for OUT Maine to show movies and have discussions regarding LBGTQ issues. We have been the incubator for new justice-related organizations - with members or staff starting these projects, and they grew: Window Dressers and Midcoast Community Chorus.
Many congregants also support Maine Unitarian Universalist State Advocacy Network (MUUSAN).
Our church has been certified as a Green Sanctuary and Welcoming Congregation. Many congregants are passionate about climate justice and LBGTQ justice. These are ongoing commitments where we need folks to continue to organize education and action projects. Contact the church office at mail@uurockland.org if you would like to get involved.
