Universalist Church Shares Donations with Six Organizations
In late November the First Universalist Church of Rockland contributed to six organizations with funds from their weekly plate donations collected in 2017 and 2018. The Unitarian Universalist [UU] “Outreach Giving” is a practice that engages congregants with organizations that share our values and provide much needed and appreciated services. It also is a reminder that generosity is a spiritual discipline. At every weekly worship service, congregants are reminded that one-half of their plate donations will be shared to meet needs beyond the church. With two years’ of donations the church as able to share $1,200 with each of the following organizations: Knox County Health Clinic, Knox County Homeless Coalition, Area Interfaith Outreach [AIO], OUT Maine, Coastal Community Recovery Center and the Maine Immigrants’ Rights Coalition. Our practice of “outreach giving” is one of the ways the First Universalist Church supports important community work. The congregation also provides weekly donations of food and supplies to the AIO Food Pantry, has expanded service to the One Less Worry Program, and helps provide meals to The Landing Place.
