Worship Services for August 2010

Our Church Worship Service is at 10:00 a.m. each Sunday

August 29, 2010 “Reflections on Half a Life”     Led by Rev. Mark Glovin

Mark will belatedly celebrate his transition into his 40's by reflecting on his life so far. What wisdom has he gained in the first half of his life? What will he carry forward and what will he leave behind?

Some of the themes we commonly see in our worship may show up, some newly crystallized and some maybe for the last time.

September 5, 2010 - “The Language of Wonder”    Led by Rev. Mark Glovin
Kenneth Burke called man the symbol-using animal. It’s an apt description we swim, living and flowing in a conceptual stream of words. Our reality is linguistic, shaped by language. This service will look at the power and limits of words.

September 12, 2010 - “Water Ceremony”    Led by Rev. Mark Glovin

During this multi-generational service, you’re invited to contribute a small bit of water to a common bowl from a place that is special to you. This year our ritual gathering of the waters will be different. I will gather your stories before and weave them into a prayer that the service leaders will read as we pour the waters from the four different directions. So contact Mark telling him the direction, the origin and significance of your water so your story can be woven into the prayer.

September 19, 2010 - “The Answer to How is Yes” -Led by Rev. Mark Glovin

Your attendance is always really important and this Sunday it’s even more so as we begin a vital congregational conversation. We’ll have an abbreviated worship service followed immediately by a congregational meeting to discuss and learn about the nexus of issues we face as we consider greening our building, parking and the future viability of our 345 Broadway home. Our worship service will focus on the adventure we have in front of us this year as we gear up to vision and plan and decide, all while we mark Mark’s sabbatical and Hannah’s transition toward grad school. Through it all the answer to “how” will be “yes.”

September 26 - “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” Led by Jack Deupree

Based upon Emmet Fox's 22 page article “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” in his book, Alter Your Life which was published in 1931.
