STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE

SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES AT FIRST UNIVERSALIST CHURCH

Friends:  There are so many ways to be of service to our Beloved Community.  The following list is just a beginning.  When you see something that interests you, go ahead and contact the person that is suggested, or contact me.  If for any reason you don't find something that appeals to you, dream up something that does!  We love your input.

 

BUILDING AND GROUNDS:

- Dusty Batley

Painter – paint walls, trim, railings as needed

Mower – keep church lawn mowed

Handyman projects – change light bulbs, fix door stops, build shelves, and other minor projects

Landscape designer – help create a permaculture plan that inspires spirituality and is low maintenance.

Gardeners – help create and maintain gardens

Cleaners – clean out old paints, wash windows and sills, deep clean (twice a year)

Rakers – rake leaves and gardens – spring and fall cleaning

Recycler – take recycling to the transfer station as needed.

Shovel the church roof using our roof rake

 

COMMUNICATIONS:

Photographer – capture life at church for publications (church has digital camera if needed)Interviewer – Interview new members and submit article to church newsletter

Bulletin Board maintenance – keep bulletin boards clean and updated.  Create new displays.

Library helper – reshelve books, contact people to get books returned – Audrey Moody

Help maintain historical records – Audrey Moody

 

R.E. PROGRAM:

– Carney Doucette

Teachers – support young people through religious explorations

Assistant teachers – we need a second adult with each RE program to assist each Sunday

Chaperone – supervise youth sleepovers both here at church and at district cons

Drivers – drop and pick up youth at district cons

Crafter – offer a craft to families during a RE event like retreats and holiday fair

 

CHURCH OFFICE ASSISTANCE:

– Aimee Moffitt-Mercer

Folding orders of service

Changing the marquee out front

Pasting book plates into books

Making runs to the Rockland post office and other errands

Stuffing newsletters

Helping answer the phone and tend the office when Aimee is out

 

HOSPITALITY:

Helping at or hosting a Coffee Hour – Pat Pearce

Greeting visitors on Sunday – Lucie Bauer

Retreat planner – Help create and plan the fall retreat at Tanglewood 4-H Camp – Annie Kiermaier

 

FUN-DRAISING ASSISTANCE:

-Diane Batley, Jeanne Klainer or Susan St. John

Helping with, or actually organizing, a fundraiser.  A number of ideas have been suggested, and only wait someone with the inspiration to carry them forward –  a weekend Bean/Spaghetti Supper, a Coffee House, Plant Sale...we just had a blast organizing a giant yard sale that raised $4,000! What are your ideas?
